I think that most people, and I was one of them, assumed that the people on the corners of busy traffic areas holding up signs, were the homeless, the poor, the destitute, etc. However, I’ve come to learn that this is not true for the majority. Most of the ones on the corners that are holding up the signs are dressed fairly well, and have cells phones, etc. How do I know this, because a group of us from my church go to downtown Minneapolis twice a month and provide food, hot chocolate, coffee, clothes, warm outerwear when we have it, and toiletries when we can get them. Most of the people we’ve served didn’t have warm clothing this winter, were desperate for a warm coat, jacket, blanket, gloves, hats, scarves, etc. and some still have those needs. What else I’ve learned is that they aren’t all there because of an addiction or an unwillingness to work. There are people who worked hard, earned a good living and got sick and lost everything when they could no longer work; many have just fallen on hard times and have no where to go. Have you ever thought about what you’d do if you lost your job, couldn’t find another job, and the next thing you know your monies gone, you still haven ‘t found a job, and you’re going to lose your home any day now?
God created us with a heart to help others, to share what we have, to be loving and non judgmental, to reach out to the less fortunate, and to let our hearts lead us. However, many people have gone through things that have hardened their hearts, or left them disabled emotionally, and there are those who aren’t aware of those in need or don’t truly understand why they’re in need. I didn’t learn the truth until I got involved. Now, I want to just hug everyone of them and tell them it’s going to be alright. The hug is real the rest is a maybe to them, a believe it when I see it type thing.
Many believe in God and like to be reminded that he’s with them always because it’s something they can hold on to; and many have been healed by God, one in particular was a blind man who’s sight was healed a few months back.
